SCOM 2012 R2 – System Center Advisor Error: 3000 Unable to register…

Today I had been playing around with System Center Advisor and I bumped into an issue where I could not connect to the System Center Advisor service.

The error was…

Error 3000: Unable to register to Advisor Service. Please contact the system administrator.

Luckily SCOM mastermind Daniele Muscetta left a comment on my blog where another visitor also had the same problem.

To make things short, the thing is, that in the background certificates are used to communicate between SCOM and System Center Advisor and the time difference between both system must not be more than 5 minutes.

Therefore make sure when you create the connection, that your time of the SCOM server is synchronized with a public time source and the time difference is not more than 5 minutes, otherwise this error will occur.

Thanks to Daniele for commenting and providing this valuable input! All credits to him!

  1. I ran into the same problem when trying to register Ops Manager with the Advisor Limited Preview and blogged about it here: http://bit.ly/R9lEkD . The issue ended up being that when I tried out Advisor last fall my company was using a proxy server, but doesn’t anymore. That value was still stored in Ops Manager. I was able to use Get-SCAdvisorProxy and Set-SCAdvisorProxy to resolve the issue.
